Ο Δημήτρης Πολυχρονόπουλος είναι αρχιτέκτων μηχανικός του Ε.Μ.Πολυτεχνείου. Εκπόνησε τη Διδακτορική του διατριβή στη Σχολή Αρχιτεκτόνων ΕΜΠ (2002). Έχει διδάξει σε προπτυχιακά μαθήματα και στο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Σχολής Αρχιτεκτόνων ΕΜΠ. Σήμερα διδάσκει μαθήματα Αρχιτεκτονικού (2ο και 5ο έτος) και Αστικού Σχεδιασμού (4ο έτος) στο Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτονικής του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης, στη βαθμίδα του Καθηγητή.
Έχει συμμετάσχει σε ελληνικά και διεθνή ερευνητικά προγράμματα και συνέδρια, με βασικό προσανατολισμό το σχεδιασμό του δημόσιου και αστικού χώρου.
Ήταν συντονιστής του προγράμματος ERASMUS (από το 2008-2015) και ERASMUS PLACEMENT (από το 2013-15) του Τμήματος Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών ΔΠΘ.
Το διάστημα 2008 - 2012 συντόνισε και δίδαξε στο διεθνές ΘΕΡΙΝΟ ΕΡΓΑΣΤΗΡΙΟ ΑΡΧΙΤΕΚΤΟΝΙΚΟΥ ΣΧΕΔΙΑΣΜΟΥ στη Θάσο, με θέμα «Διαδραστικά περιβάλλοντα και Αρχιτεκτονική» που αφορά σε πολλαπλές προσεγγίσεις της αρχιτεκτονικής με συμβολές από τον χώρο της τέχνης, της φιλοσοφίας και των κοινωνικών θεωριών.
Από το 1998 μέχρι σήμερα έχει λάβει μέρος σε ένα μεγάλο αριθμό Πανελλήνιων και Ευρωπαϊκών Αρχιτεκτονικών Διαγωνισμών ιδεών, στους οποίους έχει λάβει βραβεία και διακρίσεις ενώ έχει συμμετάσχει σε 15 εκθέσεις αρχιτεκτονικής. Το διάστημα 2005–2008 υπήρξε μέλος της Συντακτικής Επιτροπής της περιοδικής έκδοσης (ΑΡΧΙΤΕΚΤΟΝΕΣ) του Συλλόγου Αρχιτεκτόνων(ΣΑΔΑΣ).
Polychronopoulos Dimitris Professor at the Dept. of Architecture, Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.). Since 2004, he is teaching Architectural and Urban Design. He is a graduate Architect Engineer – School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.) and he holds a Phd on Urban Design (N.T.U.A., 2002) He worked on various award winning “architectural design competitions”, concerning architectural and urban design.
Since 2006 he is teaching the following Design studios: “Architectural Design” (5th and 2nd year), “Landscape and Architecture” (2nd year), “Urban design” (4th year). His interests focused on urban design and architectural synthesis, with the exploration of ideas and the development of areas of research concerning on buildings and urban landscapes at different scales. During the years 2008-2011, he was teaching and coordinating an annual International Architectural Summer Workshop at the island of Thassos, “Interactive Landscapes and Architecture”, intended for students with previous experience in design and fine art fields. Dimitris has lectured and taught at the School of Architecture NTUA postgraduate program for over 3 years.
During the years 2008-2015, he was the Erasmus+ and Erasmus Placement Departmental Coordinator at Dept. of Architecture ( D.U.Th.)
